Drumroll please........

...........in this corner, wearing black trunks and a grey sports bra, weighing in at 130.744 pounds and with 27.0% body fat, we have Kristin "KO" O---, (hopefully) Lockdown Champion of the World CrossFit North Atlanta!

Please excuse my messy room.  But, do you have tickets to the gun show?

So, in six weeks, I learned to eat how we were made to eat and the following things happened:
  • I lost 6.805 total pounds.
  • I gained 1.328 pounds of muscle, so I lost 8.133 pounds of fat.
  • I went from 31.6% body fat to 27.0% body fat.
  • I have increased energy.
  • My performance in the gym has vastly improved.
  • I never feel sick to my stomach or bloated (seriously, even when I'm PMSing, I don't feel bloated).
  • I look better.
  • 85% cacao chocolate and unsweetened coconut flakes taste sweet to me.
  • I've lost an inch from my waist, hips and chest.
  • I was starting to develop cellulite on the front of my legs, which are quite muscular (even pre lockdown) and I now have almost no cellulite anywhere.
  • I have no desire whatsoever to go back to a Standard American Diet.
  • (bloodwork results pending...)
Mind you, all of this with doing CrossFit for only 45 minutes per session, three days per week.  Otherwise, I walked a lot, ran a few times, and did things like yard work, house work, etc.  That's it.  Proof positive that fitness is at least 80% nutrition.

They took before and after pictures, which are apparently going to be e-mailed to us, and as embarrassing as my before pictures may be, I will post them.  Don't let the government and medical professionals fool you into thinking a low-fat, high grain/sugar diet is healthy.  I am proof that "high fat" and no grain/sugar will give you incredible results, and you can still eat delicious food, just lose the grains and sugar.  Shoot, even Cooking Light is catching on and has a ton of grain-free recipes this month and an article about how the main culprit in our nation's health crisis is probably (their words) sugar!  I remove the probably part.  Once you get the sugar out of your diet and get through the withdrawals (sugar activates the same receptors in your brain as heroin... dead serious), you just have a new definition of what is dessert, if you eat it at all... fruit with unsweetened coconut, a small piece of 85% cacao chocolate, a small serving of Turtle Mountain dairy and gluten free icecream (all hail the Paleo gods on this one).  Just do it!

ETA:  I won the lockdown for the ladies!  Results here.  Pictures and BodPod don't lie.  I have reverse body dismorphic disorder... I didn't realize I looked that bad!  Hahahahaha.

Whoa, that's awesome! I can't wait for your new site to be up. I want to learn more about all of this. The thing that intimidates me the most is giving up sugar. I've cut a lot out already, but not completely. I need to go back and read from the start of your journey. :) Thanks for sharing!

MM, CF is awesome and anyone can do it. Everything can be scaled to your ability, and it's so effective that you really build up your strength quickly. I never thought I'd be able to do unassisted pullups and it only took me a few months to get there! Highly recommend it.

Good to know. I think I wnat to do it with Mr. M to keep me accountable. Question about your diet, can you have canned tuna or does it have to be fresh/raw?

and seriously no cheese? my life would crumble without cheese. avocados?

You can have canned tuna. Really, as long as it fits the bill of protein (beef, pork, poultry, fowl, fish, eggs, etc.), carb (VEGGIES! and fruit) and fat (avocado, coconut, olive, nuts and seeds), you can eat it. You want to limit your nuts/seeds and fruit intake, but it's not off limits. Generally, I eat one serving of fruit a day, and one serving of nuts on most days. Each meal should contain one thing from each food group (don't overthink it) and snacks should always contain a protein or fat (w/ a carb is fine, i.e. pineapple w/ unsweetened coconut flakes = a pina colada!).

But the no dairy! I would DIE. DIE!!

You're far better than me!

I'm adding back in limited dairy. There's a "diet" similar to paleo called primal (check out Mark Sisson) and he's not anti dairy. I personally don't have any issues w/ dairy digestively (at least, symptoms of any), so I'm adding it back sparingly. Now, if I could just find grass fed cheese somewhere, I'd be set. I found the pastured butter (@$3.79 per 1/2 lb at Whole Foods). Come to think of it, I bet they have grass fed cheeses.

If I could have dairy, then this paleo would be so easy for me. I basically eat that way anyway. All I'd have to do it remove the two slices of bread I eat on my sandwiches, the occasional rice dish, my morning oatmeal, and white potatoes (which i NEVER eat unless it's french fries). But the dairy...oh I NEED it. Maybe not every day, but at least once a week.

I think I might try this, though to be fair, I will still go out on my splurge night once a week where I will have wine and cheese and pasta. But one meal out of 25 isn't so bad.

And I totally feel you on feeling like crap the next day. Every week on my splurge night, the next day I feel like I was hit by a bus. Yet I STILL continue to go out for dinner and splurge the next week. When will I learn lol?

Anyway, I'm going to try this and Crossfit and just modify my diet slightly.

AND emailing you back now :)

Great job Kristin. Your results are of the hook. Equally impressive are your performance gains. Both have been very noticeable. Keep up the hard work.

Thanks for the DU tip. I think I should definitely try a new rope. I've heard the thinner ones are easier, they just hurt more when you miss. Maybe that will incentivize me :) Congrats on your body pod stats from your paleo challenge. Awesome awesome awesome. I totally agree that 80 of fitness comes from the kitchen.
